To care for your Lagunaria patersonii, plant it in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Water it regularly for the first year to help establish its roots, then reduce the frequency, as it is quite drought tolerant.

Mulch to conserve moisture and control weeds. Fertilise in spring with a balanced fertiliser to promote healthy growth.

Prune lightly to maintain its shape and remove dead or damaged branches. Protect the tree from severe frosts if you live in an area with cold winters. With this care, your Lagunaria patersonii will thrive and beautify your garden.

Lagunaria patersonii: the ideal pink-flowering tree for coastal landscaping

The Lagunaria patersonii, known as tree of paradise or pyramid tree, is a medium-sized evergreen native to Australia and the Norfolk Islands. It has become one of the most popular species in Mediterranean landscaping thanks to its spectacular pink flowers, its hardiness in coastal environments and its elegant pyramidal shape.

Characteristics of Lagunaria patersonii

  • Elegant pyramid shape: It grows to a height of between 8 and 15 metres, with a compact, conical crown, making it ideal for urban planting schemes.
  • Spectacular flowering: large, deep pink flowers between May and July, similar to those of the hibiscus.
  • Evergreen foliage: greyish-green leaves with silvery undersides that provide colour all year round.
  • Coastal resilience: It copes perfectly well with sea breezes, salty soil and strong winds.
  • Adaptability: It can withstand moderate droughts and temperatures as low as -5°C, although it prefers mild climates.
  • Rapid growth: between 50 and 80 cm per year under optimal conditions.
